Strawberries

The first two arrivals

Desirably Delicious?

6.7.2023 We’ll never know what the first strawberry would’ve tasted like, as it was devoured in the night by a thief. Several robin witnesses in the area reported seeing a rabbit flee the scene into the neighbor’s bushes. Fortunately, these genetically engineered strawberries are hardy, and more grew back immediately the following week. By more, we mean one.

We’ve also learned, that despite the stem being broken, the fruit, though it will not continue growing, will continue ripening as seen to the right, in the tiny, premature baby berry. No one has volunteered to eat it yet to see if it tastes good.

7.30.2023 We ordered small strawberry roots and put them in cups. Once they sprouted, we moved them to the plastic tower pieces. They grew so fast they stunted all their strawberry growth because the soil was too shallow. So… we moved them all to bigger buckets. Now they are growing bigger.

4.28.2024. After a decent harvest of first time strawberries, (a few here and there), I’m pretty sure all the strawberry plants are dead. It might’ve been the containers allowing cold to freeze the roots, or it might be too much mulch/pine scraps? Who knows. We moved them to the back of the cherry orchard. If any survived, they’ll grow back there. Either way, we’ll probably get more.
