6.24.2023 The famous tree that Robin Hood used as a landmark to meet with his bandits in Sherwood Forest as an oak because of how distinct they can look. This one is a Shumard, or red oak. The garden needed the mighty oak to balance the gentle willow. This tree is so strong that even the little stems are sturdy as branches.
6.29.2023 Finally got a human to measure against the oak.
9.01.2023 By the end of summer, Japanese beetles had ravaged the oak leaving only a couple half-eaten leaves left. It never recovered before fall descended. It slumbered precariously through a windy winter.
4.27.2024. Below is February, March and April. The oak was the last tree to wake up, barely greening its buds after every other tree had already opened. Today was the first day they opened.
